BS 8436 Cable

The original BS 8436 cable – widely imitated, but never surpassed. This premium aluminium-screened cable is designed for indoor and outdoor low-voltage power and lighting applications.

Engineered to fail safely when penetrated by a metallic object, BS 8436 cable provides a reliable and cost-effective solution for installations where cables are concealed at depths of less than 50 mm.

It is particularly suitable for cables installed outside recognised safe zones, or within walls containing metal or part-metal construction, helping installations comply with BS 7671:2018, Regulations 522.6.201–204.

Application

BS 8436 aluminium-screened cable is suitable for indoor and outdoor fixed wiring applications, including low-voltage power and lighting circuits.

Its fail-safe construction is designed to reduce the risk presented when the cable is accidentally penetrated by a nail, screw or other metallic object. This makes it a practical and cost-effective cable for concealed wiring where additional mechanical protection or compliance with the Wiring Regulations is required.
